Cycling the Pacific Coast Highway

On 26th April we set out on a once-in-a-lifetime journey, cycling down one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, following the Pacific Coast Highway. The dream was to complete the ride border to border, Canada to Mexico. We rode for seven weeks, on e-bikes to help up the hills, and stayed mainly in AirBnBs along the way. The original dream was a pushbike and tent but that was 38 years ago and well, we’re in our 60s now, so we thought why not be more comfortable and make sure we enjoy it.

The trip was simply stunning. Our blog, which you can access via the “blog” link above, has a record of each day of the expedition, and we have enjoyed both writing it and engaging with the many people who have been reading it as we rode.

Cathy joined us for two weeks along the way, from McKinleyville to Monterey

We chose to support two charities during our expedition and have made our own donations to them. If you’d like to contribute, these are the charities and links to two JustGiving pages we’ve set up:

  • Water Aid, an international not-for-profit, determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene normal for everyone, everywhere within a generation.

  • Move Against Cancer, which exists to inspire, support & empower people to move (ie exercise) against cancer, and is where our godson Luke is a patron.

We posted photos and notes about each day’s riding, to share the journey and adventure with our family, friends and anyone who’s interested. We posted some of the same content on Facebook in case that’s easier to follow but there are key people in our lives don’t use Facebook so this blog site has solved that little conundrum.
